On Saturday my computer starting going to the guest screen on the desktop
when I turned it on for no reason. As expected, when I logged as a guest,
all my personal files were gone. I finally figured out that by hitting
control-Alt-delete and just entering as the owner and NOT putting in a
password, my old desktop came up with all my files. 1st, I just want to turn
on my computer and my desktop with my files just come up WITHOUT typing in a
password. 2nd, It seems even if I log in as the owner, I can't change any of
the settings because I'm not the administrator. As far as I know, I have
never been the administrator, just the owner. I used to be able to change
settings as the owner. I'm saying I have always been the owner because that
was what my old desktop came up as. Can anybody help me get back to logging
on without typing in a password with my orgininal files and be the
administrator too.

Boot that way using the reserve account called Administrator

If you remember giving a password for it when setting up, use it,
otherwise assume it is blank.

In that Start - Run - the line
control userpasswords2

And you should find your Owner account, highlight, take Properties, and
on the Group Membership page make sure it is in Other - Administrators.
You might also take the Reset Password, so as to be quite sure it is
what you think!

You can then Apply and OK out of that, uncheck the box 'Users must give
a user name' and on clicking Apply, enter the user name and password you
want to logon on with automatically
