Signatures and the "Do not check spelling and grammar" Box

When I set a signature to auto-add for a new mail message, it also stops
the spelling check because in the New Message window > Tools > Language

Set Language > the box, "Do not check spelling and grammar" is

checked.
This box is checked everywhere I place the insertion cursor except
*below* the signature. There is no place above the sig that has this box
unchecked.

According to Diane Poremsky, there's a style Word uses with the sigs,
and it has spelling check disabled. This style apparently affects the
area above the signature.

If I set <none> for the default signature, then in the
New Message window >Tools > Language > Set Language > the box, "Do not
check spelling and grammar" is not checked. But then I can't add a sig.
In New Message window > Insert > Auto text > Signature > only one old
sig is available. I don't remember how I got that sig there.

I can, of course, use a default sig and then when I start a message and
then uncheck the "Do not check spelling and grammar" box, but I really
shouldn't have to do this. This is actually what I do.

So how do I use a default sig, but still be able to have (by default) an
area above the sig with a style that has Spell Check enabled?

So does anybody know of any Outlook/Office web boards where I could
re-ask this question? I'm stumped, myself, and nobody else here knows
the answer either.
