Signature updates still looping

Since pretty much day 1, every signature update I've tried to install through
the auto-updater has failed. Obviously running Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} then internally updating does the
trick. Are other people only having occasional problems updating, or is it a
problem every time for you guys too?

I'm running XP home sp2, and have reinstalled Defender more times than I'd
care to count...

Does reinstalling Windows Defender ever fix any of the symptoms that cause
you to take that action?

I'm curious--I don't have any specific symptom that would cause me to
recommend that action--so I'm trying to see whether others are trying this
because it worked, for, say, beta1--or whether there really is some reason
to believe that this works in beta2, for some specific problem?

I think it is: http://support.microsoft.com/KB/915105
I never had problems like this but I believe there were many issues so
somene wrote this KB article.

That article is about a specific circumstance--a bug that occurs if you
uninstall and then reinstall Windows Defender.

I've still not heard a persuasive argument for doing that
uninstall/reinstall in the first place.

I'm not going to say there isn't one--but I haven't seen an issue in these
groups that uninstalling and reinstalling is a proven fix for.

For the last 2 days The same update has been downloaded and installed every
time I get on the web. I have turned off Automatic updat, but it still
notifies me that the update is ready to download.
