I am configuring a home network. The XP Professional
computer was connected to a domain so I went in to change
the domain to a workgroup. I provided the password and the
change was okayed. When prompted to restart the computer,
the windows sign in window would not respond to the
previous user name and password. Any suggestions?

You need to use an account that is on the local machine's security database.
Do you remember what the passcode was for the Administrator account for the
local machine, for example? This username/password combination would work
to get you into the computer.
