Remove Domain from Client PC including domain references

I removed the domain from the ctrl-alt-del sign on by clicking on computer
name and changing my pc from domain to workgroup. I then deleted the account
name associated with that domain from the documents and settings folder.
However, when I go to My Network Places and click on Microsoft Windows
Network, the domain name still appears. Is there any way to eliminate all
references to the domain?

Thanks in advance.

I should add that I have a very good registry editor, and am comfortable with
deleting select entries, but I know NOTHING about the network entries in the
registry.

The "Network Places" entries are stored in a 'Nethood' folder in the
userprofile.

However, eradicating traces of an old domain is a problematic issue at the
best of times. When I recently migrated a network from NT4 to a Debian
server, removing the innumerable hardlinks to the old server's resources
throughout the client PC hard-disks took far longer, and cost more, than
installing the new server.
