ICS Workgroup and domains

Hi,
I have a Laptop which is generally connected to some domain controller.

I have tried connecting it to my home network. I got "limited
connectivity" and no internet.

when I "IPCONFIG" the laptop I could see it has an "Autocofiguration
IP" which was set to 162.something... (I expected to get 192.168.0.x
and.. yes..DHCP enabled :)
My bet was that the autoconfiguration is because of the DOMAIN this pc
had to connect previously.

So I wanted to connect it to a local workgroup in my home named
WORKGROUP

I have changed the PC to connect to a WORKGROUP instead of domain using

"My Computer properties"-->"Computer name" --> "Change"

I had to restart and then had to use the pc LOCAL user to "join" the
workgroup.

The whole operation was intended for me to be able to connect the
laptop to my home network (ICS Machine) it still did not work.
"ipconfig" still showed the autoconfig IP

My Questions:

1) Is the autoconfig IP the cause for my limited connectivity?
2) Is it not related to the domain vs. workgroup (Did I do it for
nothing?)
3) Why now, when I am trying to connect it back to domain It cannot be
connected?
I guess it is because that it is physically not connected to any
domain controller so it cant "see" it. but how could it be connected to
is (Set as a domain pc) previously when there was no connectivity?
4) If I change it back to be domain pc when the pc is phsycally
connected to the domain ( cable plugged on my office place, not in my
home ) will it be ok?

Thanks.

Your computer will assign itself an automatic IP address in the 169.x.x.x
range when it cannot detect a network to connect to. This could happen for
a number of reasons, such as a bad network cable, connecting to the wrong
port on a router or switch, a bad port on your router or switch, and so on.
The domain membership issue has nothing to do with that problem.

In order to resolve the domain issue you will need to chat with the IT pros
at work and have them re-join your computer to the domain while it is
connected to the domain network. It's not something you can fix from home -
it will need to be done when the computer is physically connected to the
domain.
