since installing networking when Xp goes back to the main screen I have to
retype my password to get back in.
Is there any way to avoid this?
Is there any way to keep it from going back to the main screen?

Check in your screen saver settings. The password protect option may be
turned on.

Y.

You could shorten or eliminate your password.
You could remove the screen-saver or lengthen the idle time required for the
screen-saver to launch
You could set the screen-saver to return to the active screen instead of the
login screen
You could use Tweak-UI to establish a "grace period" for recovering from the
screen-saver

Which of these will work for you depends in whether you have administrator
privileges and what your work environment and security concerns are.

It's not turned on.
the computer drops back to the user screen not the screen saver.
this was not a problem until i had to install a password for networking.
how do I stop XP from dropping back to the user screen?

I can't eliminate it or I lose access to my 'network' big joke here.
shortening it is not helpful. I work almost exclusively with a mouse.
I actually have to reach for the keyboard to enter the password.

There are no such settings in my screen saver.
