Sidewinder Software 3.0

My hard drive was recently replaced on my Dell system due
to it failing. I am now trying to re-install the
Microsoft Sidewinder joystick but I receive this error:

"Sidewinder Game Device Software 3.x installs drivers
that are incompatible with this version of Windows. For
more information, contact Microsoft."

My current operating system is XP. I realize what this
message means but I don't understand why I was able to
install it on the old hard drive just a couple months ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Sidewinder v3.0 will not install on XP.

Just plug the joystick into the PC, go to the Control Panel, click on Game
Controllers and use the AutoDetect feature. XP has the drivers built in.
