Sidewinder Precision 2 Woes

Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss for what
is happening with this joystick.

Ive used this joystick in the past on the very same
system I now have problems. I simply cannot get any
recognition that this joystick exists from my system. I
have installed the software, used autodetect under game
controllers and it has not helped, it in fact tells me my
gameport or gameport drivers are not properly configured
but I have no idea what to look for in that regard. I
have confirmed with other devices that the USB ports Ive
tried to use are indeed working and I have used the
joystick on other systems with no problems.

I have gone through the knowledge base and did suspect
perhaps an issue with having a DSL modem connected to my
system but this turned out to not be an issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and Thank You in
advance.
