SideWinder Forcefeedback Pro Windows XP Support:

From what I understand the Microsoft SideWinder
Forcefeedback Pro joystick (requires game/midi port) is
not support on Windows XP. Can someone confirm this. If
this is the case I'll be tossing a perfectly good piece
of hardware in the trash courtesy of Microsoft.

The only driver is already built into XP and no newer updates will come.
The games will need to provide their own ForceFeedback controls.

Ok, here's the update. The software that comes with the
joystick will not work on Windows XP and Microsoft does
not and will not provide an XP version. As far as
getting the joystick to work using XP I just successfully
configured the device using the XP provided "Microsoft
SideWinder (Auto Detect)" device driver. All joystick
functionality including force feedback appear to work
correctly with MS Flight Simulator 4.0. Joystick is
connected to a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 audio card using
the onboard midi/joystick port.
