Shutting Down/Starting Up Problems

S

Snip

After I installed SP2 my machine started acting up. This
is what happens now: I shut down windows and turn off my
power strip. When I turn the power strip back on the PC
goes thru a quick surge and then goes dead even without
pushing the power button on the PC. To turn it on I have
to press the power button. I have tried different plugs
and just about everything I know to do - still this quick
surge happens before you even turn the PC on with the
power button. What's up with this and how do you fix it?

Thanks - I need help please!

snip,

your problem may have nothing to do with sp2. computers nowadays do allow
electricity to get in even when you have not pushed the power button on.
you can probably check with your computer manufacturer why you are noticing
the surge.

however, you can use a surge protector or a volate regulator if you want to
make sure that your computer won't be fed electricity that's beyond its
capacity.

hope this helps.

The surge just started after I installed SP2 - I removed
SP2 and no more surges when you turn the surge suppressor
on - do you know what could be going on in SP2 to cause
that. I also noticed that MY PROGRAMS" on the start menu
got messed up from SP2. Even after the uninstall it is
still messed up. WOW - I'm not downloading anymore
updates if this is what happens. How do you fix these
things?

Thanks
