I just got WindowsXP This is day #1 for me. I don't know
what is going on. I keep getting this -- System Shutdown
something to do with RPC ?? All I know is it goes down
after being on line for a short time. Hummm this is
driving me crazy& this is after only 1 day. HELP what do I
need to do. I'm not great at the computer, but still would
like to use it. If any one can help I would be very
thankful.

You have the Blaster virus. You probably got it the first
time you logged onto the internet. You will need to
download the blaster patch and clean up the virus with an
up to date antivirus program.

you have the MS blaster, or someone is sending out RPC
attacks... there are a few things you can do ect.

use windows build in firewall, since it closes port 135
(its the main port blaster is using)

download MS`s patch (just run live update)

there are many other options that also works, but this is
the easyest

Your system is infected by the MSBlaster Worm. This is causing the system to
shutdown abnormally.

Cause: You have not enabled the firewall while browsing the internet and not
patched the system with latest Microsoft WindowUpdate hotfixes.

Courtesy of MVP Bruce Chambers:

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first installed the
KB824146 Hotfix, without having first installed an antivirus application
with current virus definition files, and before enabling a firewall, you're
very likely to get infected from any of the thousands of PCs on the Internet
that are constantly broadcasting the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only
takes a few seconds of exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches, and
removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the next RPC
countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make sure you've
enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more intrusions while
getting the updates/patches/tools.
