Shutdown Win2k PRO

When shutting down win2k pro instead of powering off the
computer it goes to splash screen which states "ti is now
safe to turn off your computer." This is a new install of
win2k. Previously machine had win 98se and it powered the
machine off. Any ideas what is causing this difference?

Check this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\PowerdownAfterShutdown

The value should be 0 (zero).
