Shutdown Screen Garbled

During either "Log Off" or "Turn Off Computer" phase the
Windows XP background screen becomes quite garbled. I
only have to move the mouse over the "Standby", "Turn
Off", or "Restart" buttons to get this effect. If I abot
the process the screen returns to normal and everything
is fine. The system does shutdown as usual and this is
only a visual or cosmetic problem.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you may be having some problems with your
video card drivers. Find out what kind of video card you
have and go to the companies website and look for some
updated drivers. It's worth a shot. Good luck.
