Shutdown Problems

Hi Guys,
get my fair share of problems, the latest one is that windows won't shut my
computer down. I am running windowXP service pack 2. I click the turn off
computer icon, which brings another box to click turnoff computer I do this
and nothing happens I have to turn off the power(after waiting ages). Is
there a third party program that I can use to shut my computer down. Thanks
for your help guys
