Shut Off Freeze

Whenever I try to turn off my pc, the screen freezes on the blue screen with
the windows xp icon on it. I have to hold my on switch for a few seconds to
shut it off.

I had a problem a few days ago with a slow startup, somehow I managed to
mess up the "services" and some were turned off. I got advice on this site
and the startup is better than it was, but now I can't turn off.

It may be a problem in "services" but, I'm not sure what one affects the
turn off.

Can anyone help?

System Restore to a date/point before you made the changes.

Changing Services and start modes is moderately risky. Things
in a PC are tightly interconnected and doing some operations will
break other things. When adjusting Startups it's important to note
the differences between 3rd-Party items and essential XP services.

Abruptly powering off a PC isn't good for it. Potentially, you can
leave the disk drive in an inconsistent state, improperly close the
Registry Hives and generally make a mess of things. Whenever
you halt a PC's power, you should do a read-only Chkdsk on the
system drive to ensure it's not marked as "Dirty" (Needs checking).

To assist with Shutdown, add the Microsoft add-on Service called
User Profile Hive Cleanup, found here:
