XP turn off freeze

Whenever I try to turn off my pc, the screen freezes on the blue screen with
the windows xp icon on it. I have to hold my on switch for a few seconds to
shut it off.

I had a problem a few days ago with a slow startup, somehow I managed to
mess up the "services" and some were turned off. I got advice on this site
and the startup is better than it was, but now I can't turn off.

It may be a problem in "services" but, I'm not sure what one affects the
turn off.

Can anyone help?
