Shut down

My wifes computer will start and operate and shut down as
normal. The problem is as soon as everything shuts down
the orange busy light comes back on and it sounds like
the hard drive is spinning up. Power has to be turned off
to stop, but as soon as power is reapplied the hard drive
starts up again. However we can still start and use the
computer. How do I fix this?

I am assuming you are desparate to post this question here. This is an XP
software newsgroup and you clearly have a hardware problem.
