Shut Down Warning Problem

Can Anyone help? I have a very annoying problem. It is when I go to shut down
my new Athlon Dual Processor Computer down it comes up with a warning like
this:-

WARNING END PROGRAM explorer.exe
This Program is Not Responding
To return to windows & check the state of the program click cancel
If you choose to end the program immediately you will lose any unsaved data
To end the program now, click End Now

I usually click End Now and the computer shuts down. As I have said, it is
only a small problem but a very annoying one. I have contacted the
manufacturer of the Computer and they have suggested that it is a software
problem (but they will charge me for taking it in for inspection and the time
for finding the problem) I have re-installed Windows XP but that hasn't
helped, so I am at a loss to find the solution. So can anyone help or can
anyone advise were I can go on the internet to get help?
Thanks

Harry
PS I have checked for virus's and ad-aware and there is none

Hi,

I agree it can be an software problem but not necessarily.
Does this problem occur on clear system ? I mean without any additional
applications.
You can check if on motherboad producer's website there are an new drivers
to motherboard's devices.

Hi there

Thanks for replying. I don't know what you mean by "clear system" but it
happens when I have shut down everything. It is usually after I have been
surfing the internet and I have shut down Windows Internet Explorer 7 and I
want to shut down the computer. Usual proceedure like go to Start: click on
Turn Off Computer: click on Shut Down: and then I get this warning. I only
seem to get the warning when I go to shut down the computer. I don't get it
when I shut down applications eg Word or Excel.
It is very annoying and I am at my wits end in knowing what to do to get rid
of it.
Thanks

Harry

Hi,

Clear - I mean without any additional applications - only Windows.

You said:
"manufacturer of the Computer and they have suggested that it is a software
problem"

They mean that you've installed something and this causes problems with
shutdown - it can be e.g. some software which contain an Windows Explorer
plugin.

Try to deinstall some applications which added its menu to context menu of
Explorer.
Also you can try to turn off antivirus monitor (to not start after reboot),
restart machine and check then if problem still occurs.

Thanks Marcin

Just a few things that I need clarification on, you say "Try to deinstall
some applications which added its menu to context menu of Explorer" What do
you mean 'context menu' ? were would I find that and those applications?
Also, you say to turn off Anti-Virus software...well I have AVG (Free
Version)..do I shut it down or de-install it?
Thanks for all your help

PS I have thought of a way/work around this problem in that instead of
shutting down the computer I log out first and then shut down...I have tried
that and it works......I know it is not the proper way to shut down the
computer but if it deals with the problem.......but maybe you or someone else
might come up with the solution
