shut down problems

hy guys .. when i shut down the pc via the start button,
windows shuts down to a screen that says you can now turn
of your computer and then i have to hold the on/off
button in for 5seconds to shut down... never had to do
this with win 98
im running xp pro with p3 450 on a aopen ax6bcpro m/board
with 3d prophet II ti video card any help would be
greatly appriciated

A probable cause is that your installation found the BIOS does not
adequately support the 'Advanced Configuration & Power Interface'
(ACPI). It then installs the older APM, but leaves it disabled. Go to
Control Panel - Power Options, and if there is an APM page, check
'Enable APM' on it.
