Shut Down During W2K Install

Chris

I have upgraded my motherboard (Aopen AX4SPE-UN with
latest BIOS) and CPU (Intel P4 2.4A 1MB L2 Prescott). The
computer seems to post just fine. I configure the CMOS
settings and restart it ti on install Windows 2000. When
it begins the set-up process in W2K, the computer suddenly
powers off. I have tried different settings in the CMOS,
but nothing helps. I am using Windows 2000 SP3, which came
with my original computer (that I built). It is not a
branded OS like Dell. It is just OEM, which I bought with
computer parts. It worked just fine on my old computer
(Soltek MB & AMD 1700). Please advise what may be causing
my problem.

Thanks,
Chris

I'd make absolutely sure all cabling and cards, incl RAM, are firmly
seated, and all mobo settings (jumpers etc) are correct, especially
since you just finished that major revamp.

W2k does more stringent and thorough hardware tests than POST (or any
DOS-based OS), and will roll over and play dead if it isn't completely
happy.

Also, VERY EARLY in the install, like almost right away, you must hit F6
& tell the installer you have mobo and controller drivers; it'll ask you
later to provide them. If you wait until later to be asked, that can be
too late, as the installer will have installed generics that may not
work. The F6 prevents that.
