Shut down button

On the Windows 2000 Professional log in screen there is a Shut Down button.

On the Windows 2000 Server log in screen there is no Shut Down button.

I'm curious as to why this is. Any ideas?

Hi !

This is because the server need to know if you have the rights to shutdown
the server.... And to know who you are.... you have to be logged.... This is
a default policy... You can change this policy on domain GPO or locally....
depending on your situation !

How do I change the policy locally (what are the steps) and how do I change it in the domain GPO? (does that mean Active Directory?)

Thanks.

Shutdown Button on the Welcome Dialog Box

To display a shutdown button at Login, open RegEdit
and navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT
\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Value: ShutdownWithoutLogon REG_SZ 0 or 1

When this value is set to 1, you can select Shutdown from the
Welcome dialog box. If the value is 0, the Shutdown button does
not appear.
