Show total messages in Nav screen but unread in Outlook Today scre

I just 'upgraded' from Outlook 2003 to 2007. I have multiple mailboxes and
they show as subfolders under the Inbox in the Navigation screen to the left.
I have set them to show Total messages (not just Unread). In the Outlook
Today summary window, I also show each Mailbox and want only unread (i.e.
new) messages to show in the count to the right of each box. Apparently, this
happened automatically in Outlook 2003 but I can't get it to happen in 2007.
If I set Nav to show total, Today shows total. Any ideas?

Mailboxes or folders? Mailboxes can never be subfolders.
