Should this be the case

I've bought a new PC, due to destruction of the old one.

I'm trying to get the inportant data off the old HD (which was not destroyed
(thank goodness) onto the new one.
For various reasons, this seems to not be very easy, probably because I now
have only one machine which is remotely capable of running XP.

To cut a long stor shaort, I have 3 huge HDs attached to this new machine.
In the BIOS setup, it is possible to to state that certain of these disks
are not present. However, although this procedure does detaermine which
disk is booted, all three disks are always recognised by XP and are
allocated letters which it pleases and to and/or from it is possible to read
and write.

I suspect that this should not be so. Am I correct - or is my machine
defective? It is made by Goodmans, after all <s>.

I believe windows will detect any disk connected whether or not it is shown
in the bios. As long as the boot disk is shown to allow the operating system
to load. I have a 250Gig PATA drive connected as primary slave and it is not
listed in the bios screen at boot time but works fine in windows.
