shortcuts to network location are loosing settings

I have a Windows 2003 server with 5 xp Pro clients. The clients connect to
a nework app via a shortcut on the desktop of each client. The shortcut
"target" points to a mapped network drive initiated by a loginscript that
runs on the client (e.g. target H:\targetapp.exe where H: is a network
mapped drive.)

About every two weeks or so, the shortcuts on the clients automatically
change from H:\targetapp.exe to something like
C:\windows\system\targetapp.exe which then of course renders my shortcuts
useless...and clients can't connect without reconfiguring shortcuts.

What could be causing my shortcuts to automatically change their
configuration parameters. Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
This happens to some of my users if they use the shortcut when the
network resource is not available. XP will look for a match to the file name
anywhere it can. In my case it tells the users it found the file in a new
location and asks if they want to open the file? If they say Yes, the
shortcut saves this info and becomes modified.
If it does not find a matching file name it just gives an error message.
If you prefer this behavior you could try to make sure there is no matching
file name around.
Hope this helps you.
