Hi,

I'm new to XP, and would like to know if there's a way to put shortcuts on
the taskbar. (Not the quicklaunch, nor in the "Start" section, but next to
the start menu.

Also, can I create a shortcut for 'show desktop'? I miss that from '98 and
ME.

Thanks in advance.

In XP as well as in older Windows versions, the task bar show
running programs, not shortcuts. Shortcuts are on the Quick
Launch bar, which is normally next to the start menu.

Please clarify what you are asking about.

Sorry for the confusion. I guess I want to add shortcut to the quick launch

bar, (next to the start menu)

Also, can I create a shortcut for 'show desktop'?

Thanks

Tim

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Utilities, Restore Show Desktop Icon.

Also, right click a blank area of the taskbar, and deselect Lock Taskbar. Then right click a blank area of the Quick Launch bar and select Open Folder. You can also drag and drop shortcuts to the QL bar.

You can just drag an existing shortcut there.

Create a text file in Notepad as follows:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save it as Show Desktop.scf then drag it to the Quick launch
bar.

Or just click on this link:
