Shortcuts no longer display on Desktop

Recently the icon for a shortcut does not appear on my Desktop when I
use the right click menu and "send to>desktop." The entry does appear in
the Desktop 'folder' at the top of Ws Explorer, however. Likewise, when
downloading a program and directing that the "exe" go to my Desktop.
Will appreciate helpful advice.

Thanks for the response. The KK fix did not correct the problem.
