Shortcuts do not stay

In Outlook 2003, I made several shortcuts on the left side menu. However,
when I close the program and re-open it, all of the shortcuts are gone, and
the left side menu is back to the default entries.

What could be causing the shortcuts to disappear? Do I have to manually
save the configuration somewhere?

how are you closing Outlook?
Are you shutting down the machine with Outlook still open? I fyou ar ethen
try closingoutlook using File | Exit first.
 
I close outlook normally - File\exit, then shutdown the computer. All files
are closed before shutdown.

It does not seem to be saving the configuration data, like a new startup
each time it opens.
 
Has anyone found a solution to this? I have the exact same problem. It is
frustrating. I setup several shortcuts for our CEO and showed him how to
add more. He went and added several after that. The next day they were
gone.
