Try checking the settings for disabilities. I fixed one
that way.

yes, i think you may be right, additionally i would add,

Control Panel, Accessibility Options, uncheck all the 'Use...' boxes on all
tabs, press OK

I have looked in there, changed the settings and back
again, also removed keyboard driver and reinstalled,
problem remains!

it doesn't seem that you are having the problem when composing a message in
the newsgroup, as i see you're able to type punctuation marks, ! and ?,
which are shifted characters... does this behaviour occur only in specific
situations or everywhere?

luckily right now nothing is on the clipboard so nothing
is pasting, and before when it does paste something, i
simply go back and backspace whatever is pasted, and then
i copy something like a single letter that is easy to
delete until the computer is restarted. VERY annoying,
believe me. I have discovered it is only the left shift
causing the problem, the right does nothing, just as the
number pad 8 opens my computer aswell as typing an 8
(numlock on), whereas the other 8 acts normally

do you remember what you were doing or took place on the computer
immediately before you noticed this happening? obviously, you've done a
complete shutdown (power off) to see if that remedies the problem? the
keyboard has its own controller inside, so its possible that it became
unhinged, if you will, during some event. could be the keyboard itself, but
more than likely some misconfiguration in Windows. more information about
what lead-up to the problem would be helpful. you've also checked Control
Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages tab, Details button,
Settings tab (verify correct keyboard and default language
installed/correct, turn OFF advanced text services on the Advanced tab while
you're there.

gone for coffee...[/QUOTE]
