hot-key removal

Does anyone know how to remove a hotkey shortcut from a non-existent link?

Here's what's happening; when ATL-SHIFT-P is pressed WMP (windows media player) launches. But there are NO shortcuts with that hotkey assignment (although I found numerous shortcuts for WMP). When you press ALT-SHIFT-P does WMP launch on your system (is this hotkey 'hard wired' by MS)?

Lastly, have had 'mystery' hotkeys before and here's what made it happen;
1) create a shortcut, assign a hotkey
2) make sure Windows is rebooted, confirm shortcut works
3) delete the shortcut

The hotkey assignment remains!

So hotkeys assignments must be stored somewhere else besides the LNK itself ... but where? I'd like to delete it.

Well I know the hotkeys are tied into the Windows (aka Explorer) Shell.
So if you don't run the Windows Desktop (aka shell), there are no
hotkeys. You can replace the stock shell with something else. It could
be another shell/desktop or even an application. I used to use cmd.exe.
No GUI desktop, but you could type in say notepad and it would run.

By the way, ALT-SHIFT-P does nothing here. I do have about a dozen other
XP computers here that I could also check, if required. I do know that
the Quick Launch, any hotkeys set in there don't work. Heck I'll bet
there are utilities out there that tells you what hotkeys are assigned
to what.

When I am running under Aston Shell, all Windows hotkeys are gone. But
it has its own hotkey manager and you can assign them just like you can
under Windows.

Interesting, appreciate you guys checking the PC's for same hotkey function. Actually I do have a program which checks for hotkeys. It's an older one by PC Magazine.

Checked for hotkeys and there are many, but no ALT-SHIFT-P

As far as mini toolbar player; JD you are a genius! When I read your reply I thought, that's odd for Windows (MS) to launch a toolbar player that way ... but sure enough, disabled WMP toolbar player and ALT-SHIFT-P is mine. Assigned the hotkey to my APP, launched it via hotkey, closed it, re-enabled WMP toolbar player, tried hotkey again and my APP launches (hurray!), rebooted and tried hotkey, and it failed, instead WMP launched (BOOOOO MS). Had to disable WMP toolbar player again. Never-the-less, that hotkey working is more important than WMP toolbar player, so ...

Thanks guys!

.... now, how to outwit MS for such a stupid move as to steel that hotkey (so I can re-enable WMP toolbar player and keep that hotkey for myself)

You think that is bad, you ought to try Windows 7. As it hijacks the
Win-number keys. :-(
