shift, ctrl, alt keys not working on keyboard

i have a really irritating problem. yesterday my shift,
ctrl and alt keys stopped working and i am convinced it
is because i pressed an unusual key combination on my
keyboard.

this is a desperate plea for anyone that has any idea on
how i can fix this problem and get my keyboard working
properly.
