Shell32.dll

Similar to Buster's problem. Tried to clear up Internet files. Received error
message stating problem with "Shell32.dll,control_run.dll" and "inetcpl.cpl",
internet Opt". Looking at "Shell32.dll" I have 3 files, [Shell32(2) &
Shell32(3)] that have different dates, and Shell32 is the oldest. Do I have a
problem here? I tried to save the oldest with a new file name and it keeps
recreating itself. I ahev an Explorer problem as well but will do a seperate
post... Trying to learn more without causing more headaches than I get now.
Thanks for any help I can get!

I faced a similar sort of issue some time back. Win XP Pro SP2, usually has
3, shell32.dll files.
One located in system 32 folder & the rest two in
C:\Windows\Software\Distribution Download\......
If you are using XP Pro with SP2 & all the Critical updates, than system
file 32 should be the oldest & the rest 2 of a later date.
It was a surprise way back, when I found that shell32.dll file present in
system 32 folder was of 7.99MB size after a fresh install(before updates were
installed or even before I connected my machine to the internet) but later
increased to 8.05 MB after the updates were installed.
At the moment all 3 are of the same size i.e. 8.05 MB.
Personally my advice would be to check these feature mentioned above, as my
machine’s OS is working smoothly/ error free.
That might give you a hint where the issue lies.
Regards!
