Sharing word documents with a Mac user

Helen

I am working with a committee one of whom is using
Appleworks version 6 the rest are using some version of
Ms Word. Can anyone suggest which format I should use to
save documents in word so that they can open them?

I have never used a Mac and the committee member is not
very computer literate.

Thanks for your time

Create a test document and save it in the various formats on the File > Save
As: 'Save as type' list. See which ones they can read and edit, and check
which work best when you read it back into Word.

If you're concerned only about text and not format, "Text Only" will be
probably the easiest.

I couldn't tell from your message if you are concerned about Mac users using
Word being able to open your files, but Mac and PC Word files should be
compatible after Word 97/98. I just ran a quick test and my Appleworks 5
wouldn't open Word files, but would open RTF files. Appleworks 6 might be
more capable, not sure. But RTF is likely your best bet.
