sharing violation

I am running Windows XP - Home Edition on a Novell network. When I retrieve a file from the network drive and modify it, I am not allowed to save it as another name to the network drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Excel, I have reinstalled Windows, and have reviewed the network settings to be sure there is no restriction there. I don't know what else to try - I'm not sure if this is a Windows, Excel or network problem. I can save in Word and all other software used in the office. Has anybody else encountered similar problems or does anybody have a suggestion for a fix

Office 2003?

In that case, this fix might be relevant:

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (KB824424) and ask for nothing more.

Windows XP Home is not a supported operating system for Novell. Not
surprising you have problems. I suggest you install XP Pro instead.

That said, look for hidden temporary files in the source directory on
the server. If you have no files open there and no one else on the
network has them open then delete the hidden files from the source
directory.

If the files are being shared from the server by others you will also
need to flag them as Sharable.
