Hi all,

I am trying to use XP Home to share a newtork connection, but it seems
to want to use 192.168.0.1 . This is a problem, since the gateway I
use wants that IP address, and I have no control over that :)

So, XP tells me that it cannot share, and quits.

Hmmmm..... What to do?

How is network setup? Is the gateway a cable/dsl router?

Is the gateway capable of being a DHCP server? If so set it to be so, then
set the clients to get IP addy etc via DHCP.
Are you trying to use ICS (internet connection sharing) on the connection?

Internet Connection Sharing automatically sets the IP address of the
LAN connection to 192.168.0.1 when it shares the Internet connection.
I'm sorry, but there's no supported way to change that.

You might be able to avoid ICS and get the desired result by creating
a network bridge between the XP Home computer's Internet and LAN
connections. That would combine the two separate network connections
into one logical connection. I've written a web page with details:

XP ICS - Network Bridge

Yes. It is a cable/dsl router, but I do not maintian it. It is
maintained by my building.

Also, the machine that needs to share the connection is a virtual
machine, within my XP machine, so it _needs_ to acees the net through
the XP box.
