I am using Microsoft Outlook as a part of MS Office 2007 Pro under MS Vista on my Gateway FX530XT Desktop. I have set up several profiles and associated .pst files for these profiles, which I have stored in a designated "Outlook" folder rather than the default c:\Documents and Settings\user\ . . ." Now I would like to set up similar profiles on my Gateway 450XL laptop using MS Outlook as a part of MS Office 2003 Pro under MS XP SP2. So far my newbie efforts have been unsuccessful. After setting up a profile in Outlook 2003 and attempting to open one of the .pst files in the "Outlook" folder, I get the error message "You are attempting to open a file of type 'Data File' (.pst). These files are used by the operating system and by various programs. Editing or modifying them could damage your system. If you want to open the file, click Open With, otherwise click Cancel." But, when I click 'Open With', I get another message "Windows cannot open this file: File: 'Henry.pst'. To open this file, Windows needs to know which program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can select it manually from a list of programs on your computer. What do you want to do? (.) Use the Web service to find the appropriate program. ( ) Select the program from a list. (OK) (Cancel)." Now, when I select to find the program from a list and click (OK), MS Office Outlook is not (neither 2003 nor 2007) in the list. Therefore, I cancel out and choose to use the Web, it links to a page offering that the file contains information with "Software and information available at: 'Microsoft Outlook' " (link). However, clicking on that link merely brings up Microsoft's webpage offering the sale of MS Office Outlook 2007.
Of course, the sharing of these Outlook .pst files between my home desktop and my laptop for travel is very important. Hopefully, I can do this without having to upgrade my laptop to Vista and/or Office 2007.
I would appreciate any guidance and assistance.
