my system crashed (XP PRO). i had the .PST files saved to a USB drive. I re
loaded my OS, and reinstalled office 2003. I then opened outlook and created
a profile . in the "open outlook data file", there was a .pst installed
called outlook. I then wen to c/document/user/local/MS/outlook and dragged
my .pst file into this folder. Then i opened up outlook, clicked on
file/open/outlook data file , then clicked on my .pst file that i just put
into this folder.

what happend then - i had a new personl folder that reflected my name, and
when i opened it, there wsa a deleted items and search folders. none of my
emails. my contacts did come through.. not sure why the emails are not
there. I used this before and it worked. i have three profiles and this
happens on all three .pst. sORRY IF THIS POSTED IN DUPLICATED AS I AM
HAVING CONNECTION ISSUES. THANK YOU FOR EVERYONES TIME IN THE COMMUNITY.

Copy your pst(s) from thumb drive to your Documents folder
Start Outlook, File>Open>Data File.......browse to the pst in Documents

A new set of Personal Folders will appear, if your data is not all there,
then the initial method of copying to your thumb drive failed/was faulty

Overwriting a pst, which was the method you used can corrupt both the pst
and the Profile

if the file is corupt, any way of saving this data ? techniques/programs ?
i ran the scanpst but no help.

If scanpst.exe reports no problems the data file is not corrupt
If scanpst reports problems it cannot fix, or simply aborts with an error,
then third party paid for tools 'may' recover

But since you have probably corrupted both the Profile & data file in your
method of retreiving the backup
Do as previously said;
Copy your origonal data file to Documents Folder
Use the mail applet to Create a New Profile - not copy -, prompt for
profile, add the data file you copied to Documents, add the accounts & test.
If on opening Outlook your data is still missing, then as previously stated
the initial method you used in creating this data file was faulty
