sharing Program Files folder over network - how to?

Hi all,

I'm trying to share the C: drive on my new Toshiba laptop.. running XP Media
Center Edition SP2.

I shared the entire drive, but still had to go in and share the My Documents
Folder and the Profile folder in order to share the specific items I needed,
and am now trying to share the Trillian folder under the Program Files
folder, but all sharing options are greyed out... ?? It appears the Program
Files folder is not sharable?? is that correct?

I need to share these in order to run backup software from a networked
computer... Is there a way to accomplish this?

thanks,
niteowl

If your backup software can't access \\computername\c$ (with appropriate
admin credentials) then I'd find another product - that's the way it should
be doing this, rather than individual shares on the client workstation.

Hi niteowl,

Are you able to share the Program Files folder if you disable Simple file sharing?

Well, turning off Simple File Sharing was the first step... thanks....

Had to mess with the permissions still, setting the Program Files child
folders to inherit the settings, but all is working as I want it now...

thanks,
