Sharing over a network

I have 2 computers(1 labtop and desktop) in a network connected using a
router. Both are able to access each other's shared files. My desktop is able
to write and read in my labtop's shared folder/files. However, my labtop is
unable to write to my desktop folder/files. Both the access permissions are
the same, but an error message when i attempt to use my labtop to add a file
to my desktop's folder:
Cannot copy File: Access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

I am sure that my file is not used when i attempt to paste. Btw, both my
computers are using the same username and password. Anyone who has
encountered this problem, please help me out. Thanks

Are they XP? Do both users belong to the administrators group?

Hey there,

i am having a similiar problem as you. One computer is fine and i can copy
files over from the other, then when i try with the other one it copys the
file over to 100% then says access denied Write - write protected..... and it
cancels the transfer.
Did you resolve this issue cause some help would be appreciated?

Thanks

I managed to solve the issue. I think the folder/files that is stored in the
hardisk does not give access to the user trying to copy/delete the folder or
files. You can try this:

- Right-click on hardisk storing file/folder
- Properties > Click on security tab on top
Make sure the user that is trying to access has individual or group rights.

Once the above is done, right click on properties of the folder/file. Make
sure the above steps are done as well.

Extra steps including those above:
Click on the sharing tab > Click on permissions button > Again make sure individual rights or group rights are given. Then try to copy/delete the file using the user that was was denied access.

What happened to me previously was because of the extra steps mentioned
above. I did not do it and therefore got this error. I hope this will able to
help you.

Does XP Pro make a difference
I have a sharing problem that I can still not figure out.
My MP3s are on one desktop with XP home

I can play the MP3 on my xppro desktop if i play the 98kb version
when i try to play the same song in the same directory that was ripped
at a higher bitrate (128) it will not play. Can not copy the higher
bitrate file either, but I can the lower bitrate file

workgroup the same
no protection enabled when ripping

any ideas?
