problem accessing the other xp workstation on the workgroup

I have my workstation and my labtop both running windows XP professional . I
am trying to network them for a long time ago and all I get when I try to
view workgroup computers is that the workgroup is not accessible .. message .
It was until yesterday after I configured my Norton Internet Security
firewall so I can open the workgroup and see both computer icons .
Now the workstation can access the labtop files but the labtop cannot access
the workstation XP files . When I try to open the workstation icon in the
workgroup folder from the labtop machine I get the message that this computer
is not accessible and you might not have permission to use this network
resource .. and another line in the message that says : Logon failure:the
user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
I have guest account active on both machines and also I have an account
created for the labtop on the workstation and on the labtop for the
workstation .

any help would be appreciated

Benni,

Is this XP Pro with Simple, or Advanced File Sharing? If Advanced, are you
using Guest, or non-Guest authentication? Activate the proper account (Guest or
non-Guest), and set it up properly:

I am using simple file sharing on both machines. I have the netbios enabled
on both but when I execute the netview command from the labtop I get access
denied and system error 5 has occured. I dont know what to do more.

The "system error 5" is access denied. If it's Simple File Sharing, you have to
activate, and setup, the Guest account properly - read the article in the link.

I have the guest account turned on both machines , and I have activated them
with the net user command and restarted both machines but the problem is the
same .

Beside the guest accounts I have had created a user account for the labtop
on the workstation and on the labtop for the workstation , aren't these two
accounts necessary for networking in the workgroup on XP machines ?

Benni,

PLEASE read the article! There are more settings for you to correct!

Since you're using Simple File Sharing, the Guest account is what you have to
get right. The other account may be useful for local access, but all network
access will be thru Guest. Please read this article too!
