We have 2 computers in our company that last week lost their "sharing"
ability. These 2 computers were purchased with and configured with a
batch of 9 computers all exactly the same. During configuration we
shared the C: drive. Last week on 2 of the 9 computers the share was
removed from the C: drive and the Sharing menu has disappeared when
right-clicking on the C: drive. File and Printer Sharing is still
enabled on both computers and I checked (and unchecked and re-checked)
the "Use simple file sharing" option under the View tab in Tools and
Options in Windows Explorer.

Originally I thought maybe there was a Microsoft update that had been
applied that somehow removed it. All 9 of the computers did receive a
common update (KB921883) however this problem is only affecting 2 of
the 9 computers so I don't think it's an update issue.

This problem has prevented us from sharing printers that are on the 2
computers along with other problems related to sharing. Please let me
know if you have any suggestions on how to get Sharing back on these 2
computers.

Thanks.

Hi Eric

have you tried resetting up their networks..if you have 9 computers
that means you must be using a router or some kind of device. I've lost
a couple of computer on my network and all I had to do was just setup
their networks again.

We have 9 of this specific type of computer. We have over 100 computers
on the domain here at the office and yes, we have routers, switches,
servers, etc. They can still access the network and access the network
resources, we just cannot share their C: drive so we can browse to them
over the network.

I don't know how or why it would happen, but it sounds as though Simple
Sharing has been enabled (I assume that with so many computers and a domain
that the machines are XP Pro). Look at Folder Options>View and make sure
Simple Sharing is disabled.
