sharing is accessible with \\ip address but not with \\hostname

Dear All,

i am running a network of winxp pro, and the share was working very fine,
but now i have a problem that the sharing is accessible with \\ip address
but not with \\hostname does any body have ane idea why is that and what
changes i need to do at my host computer (where the sharing is enabled) to
fix it.

As the .BAT file defined on 100 PCS which accesses the host computer is
defined with host name.

an early reply will be highly appreciated

best regards

Make sure that the hostname is the same as the actual name of the
computer.

Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the local area network connection.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
5. Click Properties.
6. Click Advanced.
7. Click WINS.
8. Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.

You need to be running a DNS server or add all the host names to each "host"
file of every PC. Since you are running 100 PCs, you should consider setting
up some type of DNS server, since Windows XP Pro is limited to 10 connections
at the same time.
