sharing ics

i have two pc's networked via w/lan. my main pc uses an
ethernet card to access broadband. they both work fine. i
have recently bought a laptop and have added that to my
network. ics works fine as long as it is in range of the
main pc, which is downstairs. i want to try to access the
net via the machine upstairs which uses a usb w/lan
adapter.(i cannot run my broadband cable up to this
machine); being higher then the range would be further to
reach my laptop, which currently only reaches about 5
metres as the main machine is in the front room against a
wall. i have tried changing my default gateway on my
laptop to that of the upstairs machine but i get no
internet at all on the laptop.
All machines are running xp home ed sp1.

Hi Bryan,

Does the client upstairs get a 192.168.x..x address from the ICS host? How
are the machines connected - router? switch? hub?

Thanks,
Marc Reynolds
