Shared printer problem?

Hello:
I look after a small network of donated computers for nonprofit
orginization running everything from windows98 to windows Xp. I have one
donated computer running windows 2000. With a local printer
that is shared on the network. I am not to familiar with windows 2000.

When on a computer on the network running windows 98 and wish to add this
printer on the computer running windows 2000 . It keeps asking me for a
password.

Is there anyway to identify what is this password and how I can change it.

Hello:

I have reset the administration password so there is no password. The dialog
box on the windows 98 PC shows host name and a box for password. I enter
nothing in the password and OK and it states invalid password. I have set up
the administration password and also entered that password and still it
states invalid password. I have looked through the windows knowledge database
for network password but no luck.

Setup an account on the Win2k machine that corresponds to the username and
password on the Win98 machine. Then under the printer shares and security,
give that new user rights.

Don't know if this will help or not but we ran into the same problem on our
home network. We had a 98, XP and 2000 system running. The 2000 system is
the most difficult to share, good - but yet... not.. we ended up giving the
2000 system a password to use in cases of the 98 and/or XP requesting one .
It had a generic password that worked, but was loaded in the class in which
we built the machines in therefore was something lame and hard to remember,
lol. It was easier to establish a password for the administrator on the
2000 system than trial and error on the password all the time.
If an easier method is found, please post back. Will be back in the same
position very soon here too.
Good Luck.

Create an account in Windows 2000 and connect. Must be the same account you
use to log on Windows 98...
