Shared folder security in XP Pro workgroup

A client of mine uses a 6-computer peer-to-peer workgroup, all XP Pro. He
has to share two data folders to run his accounting and primary business
software. Is there any way to protect that data from copying and
downloading by the users who have access to the folders?

thank you,

Not really. If someone can see something, they can copy it.

I know this isn't a networking ng, but since we're on the issue, would
things be different in a domain, with something like SBS or 2003 Server?
Can an application be directed to a shared resource without giving the user
access outside the application?

you could Password protect the files, others could see them but not open
them. Iv'e recently done this myself for added security
