shared contacts using public folders or address lists?

Exchange 2003.

I want to set up shared email addresses and I am struggling with using
public folders or address lists. I am curious how others are handling this?

My thoughts....
1) I have a lot of users that use OWA instead of Office Outlook and it
appears that when they compose a new mail and select the 'To' button all
they get to see is their 'contacts' folder and the 'global address list'. If
this is the case then setting up additional address lists won't help them
but setting up public folders would.

2) Address lists have to be set up and maintained with contacts created in
active directory with an email address assigned. That means I would have to
be the one to take care of all this because I am the security guy. Anyone
can access public folders if they have the proper rights.

3) Can you put a distribution list in an address list?

Your thoughts?

Thanks Thanks Thanks...

Well, not really. They can view public contacts folders, but those won't
appear when they click the TO: button, or autoresolve when they type in a
partial address. You might take a look at www.messageware.com to see if
their OWA addins will make this look 'nicer' to your users.

True.

? You can put distribution groups in public contacts folders, yes.
Your thoughts?

I'd post questions like this in m.p.exchange.admin instead of Outlook, in
the future....
