Because that is the answer !
Shareaza is P2P software. You are allowing it to needlessly consume you Internet bandwidth
and computer clock cycles. Plus you are making your computer vulnerable to all sorts of
malware and hacker attacks becuase YOU are sharing YOUR computer.
People who use P2P software should NOT complain when their PC gets bogged down and then
eventually say "how did my computer get infected."
please educate yourself on both the resource utilization of P2P software and the
vulnerability such software introduces that leaves you "at risk" !

Now to answer Mr.Haarberg's question about his computer.
Unfortunelty there isn't much you will be able to do to make the
program run faster or use less resources. Some basic steps I could
recommend for anyone having slow computer issues would be stop other
programs running in the backround, make sure you're spyware and virus
free, tune up settings, ect. There are plenty of free guides for doing
this online.
Why you ask? Well, Shareaza connects to four MAJOR file sharing
networks. These networks are constantly barraging your computer with
file search requests of people searching for music and movies, ect.
This will generate a large amount of processor overhead due to the file
matching routines in the program checking to see if you have the files
being searched for. Also - The user interface for this program is
laiden with eye candy. Lots of graphics in a UI always means alot of
memory for storage and cpu time to update that UI when you do ANYTHING
with it. MY suggestion to improve your preformance is to only run the
program when you actually intend to use it, and just understand that
you're computer will run slow - just like when you burn a DVD or CD,
you wouldn't also watch a movie or check your mail... and when you're
not actually using the application, make sure it is completely shut
down.

may be a clean Open Source version, like LimeWire, there are many
versions that include malware.
With that in mind, there is no reason to have that crap installed on a
computer.

security level of the computer and is a vector of malware infection.

That's a good point !
