I have a workgroup network at home but cannot share DVD ROM player & CD
Writer for other members of the network. I have configured it by right
clicking the drive and selecting share and security and then sharing to
everyone in Permissions list other share on hard disks. It does not work on
DVD ROM player & CD Writer. Can someone tell me the exact steps to share
such device on my Windows xp Pro os.

Thanks,

Ray

Ray,

Have you successfully shared out any other folders on this machine that
other uses can see and connect to? What happens when a user on another
machine tries to connect to the DVD Rom share? Sharing a DVD Rom drive
should be the same as just sharing a folder.

Thanks,

For Windows 9x/ME, sharing the files/devices was easy.

Under Windows NT/2000/XP, if you want to share files/printers/drives, you
need to create a Windows user with the same username as each login account
on the other PCs.

If you put a data CD in the CD or DVD drive your other computers should have
access to it.
If, however, you are trying to actually watch a DVD on a networked computer
through the DVD drive on another I don't believe you can do that. I know
I've tried and haven't been able to make that work.
