Sgtray.exe

Tom W.

I have a new acquired computer with XP installed. I have
recently been getting a pop up window at shutdown that
states that "sgtray.exe" is closing down and then says
that it can't. I usually have to close the window and
then the computer will shut down.

Any idea what this is? I have heard that it might be some
type of a "reminder" program about backing up data?

Thanks,

Tom W.

Uninstall it. It is not really needed. Had the same problem and I uninstalled it, problem gone.

In addition to what Wesley wrote - it is an update utility used in RecordNow from Stomp.

Hi Jeff;

Did you happen to know that Veritas means truth in Latin?
Honest. ;o)

[[in vino veritas]]
there is truth in wine

More useless info from a guy who may be full of it.

I dunno, Wes, I've been reading your posts for a while and it seems to me
that you're more full of truth than wine.

Wes,

I uninstalled this last evening and that took care of it.
There is another "sgtray.exe" "pf" file in a
directory "prefetch". I'm not sure if this is associated
with the file that I removed. But for right now
everything seems to be OK.

Thanks,

Tom W.

"Thank you Rocky," said Bullwinkle.

You're one of the first to accuse me of that.

Tom;

The file in Prefetch is probably associated with
sgtray.exe, don't worry about it. It should disappear
in three boots.

[[Windows XP monitors the files that are used when the computer starts and
when you start applications. By monitoring these files, Windows XP can
prefetch them. Prefetching data is the process whereby data that is expected
to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot files and
applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP and start
applications.]]

You're welcome.
