"sgtray.exe" slows shutdown on ibm laptop

H

hal

About every 3rd or 4th time i shutdown my ibm r40 laptop,
a box appears with a sliding timer telling me that
sgtray.exe is shutting down and my work won't be saved if
it does. Clicking the "end now" button completes the
shutdown uneventfully. The sgtray.exe is from Veritas
software and has to do with an updating program I'm not
aware of. The file is listed in "startup" under msconfig
and also has a line in the registry in the HKLM.../run
directory.
How do you make the dialog box stop appearing?
Thanks

Uninstall the autoupdate for the program, it should be listed in Add/Remove programs. Then check for updates yourself.

Yes! It's part of Veritas Backup Exec and Stomp Backup MyPC. It's not
needed.
